CHII & TAKU Exploring the library Page 2

The buttons on the wall were low enough for Chii to reach. The control panel inside the elevator was also located within Chii's reach and a Braille sticker was there, too.
Taku did not think about getting the wheelchair out the elevator until they were inside and going up. He was surprised at the fact that there was no space to turn Chii around.
"Chii, how do we get off the elevator?" , he asked. His voice sounded worried.
"It's no problem. You get off first, and then I'll just back the chair out. You see the mirror on the elevator wall? I can back out by checking in the mirror."
Taku was relieved.
On the second floor, they moved down a hallway. At the end of the passage, there were stairs leading to the first floor. There was a line of bright yellow Braille floor tiles between the tan carpeting. The Braille line bordered the stairs. Taku could feel the short plastic bumps under his feet when he was on the Braille block. It was a signal that the stairs were there. There were also
handrails on the wall. After going up or down the stairs using the handrails, people would know this was the end or the start of the stairs when they sensed the Braille blocks. When they had figured out the reason for every detail, they headed back to the elevator.
